RECTIFIER SYSTEM UPGRADING/MODERNIZATION
APPLICATIONS
Some typical applications for upgrading may be the following:
RATING INCREASES:
This can involve system DC voltage increases or DC current increases.
Such investigations would look at all system components including Power
Semiconductors, Transformers, Cooling Systems and Control Systems.
CONTROL MODERNIZATION:
This may include modernization of existing control systems such as replacing
analog Saturable Core Reactor or Self-Saturating Reactor Controls to microprocessor
based PLC control.
FAULT SYSTEM UPGRADES:
This can involve modernization of existing fault control and annunciation
systems to microprocessor based PLC systems. This will allow easier
communication with customer SCADA or DCS systems and provide more operator
flexibility.
COOLING SYSTEMS:
This may include modifications to rectifier or transformer cooling systems
to change the cooling method or increase capacity.
MERCURY-ARC RETROFITS:
BPEC makes a line of tube-kit replacements for old Westinghouse mercury-arc
rectifiers.
FILTER SYSTEMS:
BPEC can analyze and recommend modifications to existing rectifier
system PF correction and harmonic filtering systems.
Buffalo Power Electronics Center, Inc. can perform rectifier system studies which may result in recommendations or the need to supply upgrade equipment.
